Who runs The Disc Mill?
Hi, I'm Jerry. The Disc Mill is a one-person project out of Metro Detroit, Michigan.
Before this site existed, I dyed discs. I was a stay-at-home dad at the time, and my son and I turned the kitchen table into a dye station. I got way too deep into cell dyes and stencils. A few of those discs ended up in places I never expected. Paul McBeth and Dylan Cease held one of them once, which still blows my mind.
I don't have time to dye anymore. What stuck was the obsession with the sport, plus a lifelong thing for computers and data. The Disc Mill is where all of that ended up. It's the disc database and course tools I always wished existed, and it's free.
What this site is (and isn't)
It's a free reference site. You can search PDGA-approved discs, compare flight numbers side by side, read the buying guides, and find Michigan courses. No accounts, no paywall.
The site pays for itself with ads and Amazon affiliate links. If you buy something through a link here, I might earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it has zero say in which discs I recommend. The methodology page spells out how picks actually get made.
And no, I don't sell dyes anymore. The creator directory is for showing off other people's dye work, not mine.
Where the data comes from
- Disc approval status comes from the PDGA approved disc list.
- Flight numbers and specs come from each manufacturer's published data.
- Course details come from OpenStreetMap contributors, the PDGA course directory, and my own rounds on Michigan courses.
- "Most popular" signals come from this site's own anonymous click analytics.
Spot an error? Email me. I usually fix things within a couple days.
How this site is made
Honest answer: I use AI tools for coding and first drafts. It's the only way one person keeps a database this big running. But I review what goes up, the picks are mine, and when something's wrong, I'm the one who fixes it. If a page reads like a robot wrote it, email me and I'll rewrite it.
